|Story/s:||The Price of Victory|
This comic is a “historical account” of events from 5 years ago. The Parademons are attacking from out of tubes of energy and light, invading earth, destroying countries. Their leader Steppenwolf seems to be unstoppable. The world has united in its battle of these invaders from Apokolips.
Luckily Batman has a plan and will Superman and Wonder Womans help he intends to plant a virus in one of the towers that control the Parademons that will spread and destroy every tower on earth.
The wage their war in what remains of Metropolis and edge toward the tower there.
Superman thinks about all he has lost, his new home, his love Lois… but he fight one trying not to let the thoughts distract him
Wonder Woman thinks of all she has lost, her home, her sisters, she is the last Amazon. She must destroy the parademons every single one of them is she must.
Batman on the other hand is on the mission, thinking only on what must be done. With his daughters help (Robin, aka Helena) he makes it into the tower.
Meanwhile Supergirl is watching over the troops on the ground at various locals who plan to nuke the towers if Batman fails.
Mid battle the God Mercury appears to Diana (Wonder Woman) to deliver a cryptic message and to tell how the gods are also falling in battle.
Wonder Woman and Super man become overwhelmed by the sheer number of Parademons. While distracted Steppenwolf kills Wonder Woman with his blade and plants a bomb of some sort on Superman that vapourises him. Batman has made it into the tower and plants his virus. The shuts down as expected, sending the virus to the other towers and as the deactivate they self destruct, killing Batman.
The parademons without their control towers fall from the sky lifeless, all the towers are destroyed and Robin and Supergirl race towards a Boom Tube they think in Steppenwolf escaping and they are sucked in. The world has lost all it’s heroes today.
We then find this is all a recording by Allan Scott as a Documentary of Remembrance.
Later in Lansing, Michigan we watch Jay and his ex-girlfriend Joan are parting ways. Joan is cold about the split, driving Jay to later that night so drink alone in a park thinking over what she’s said. At that moment something falls from the sky. Jay investigates to find Apollo declaring he is done, but there is a new peril and the Earth needs a Hero.
So can this “recording of events” be trusted. Did the “Three” die these ways or were they killed in the fire pits created by Sloan in issue 0. Time will tell I guess.
Next issue… The Flash 😀
And what really happened to SuperGirl and Robin? And for that matter, do PowerGirl and Huntress exist in this world? Oh well reading more will probably get me more answers. So far, Earth 2 has grabbed my interest. A DC world without the holy trinity of heroes; no Superman, Wonder Woman or Batman. Very intriguing.
